![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With Deftones having just put the finishing touches on the follow-up to 2012’s “Koi No Yokan,” and Incubus quietly putting out a four-track EP, “Trust Fall (Side A)” on May 12, a sampling of what the band had brewing since the release of 2011’s “If Not Now, When?,” hopefully this renewed passion carries through into the next releases and subsequent tours. It just wasn’t likely that they’d really snub two major areas that have been and clearly still remain so very loyal.įriday night’s performances proved that this tour wasn’t just a quickie throwback for the sake of a little nostalgia, but rather two bands coming out ferociously and still hungry, both delivering that fire that they had seemingly lacked for almost a decade. A few weeks later, dates at the Forum and Saturday’s stop at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre were added at the tail end of the tour, which officially wraps at Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista on Sunday. There was instant excitement with the initial announcement of the co-headlining summer jaunt back in April, though at first the tour completely skipped over the L.A. However, through the years that raw, in-your-face energy that fans of both of these bands fed off of for countless live shows had tapered off. This pairing isn’t odd at all since these groups toured together a decade and a half ago as the Deftones were out in support of their third and super successful, Grammy award-winning album, “White Pony,” that included singles and fan favorites like “Digital Bath,” “Elite,” “Knife Prty” and the inescapable “Change (In the House of Flies).” Incubus had just cracked into the mainstream as well with its 1999 record, “Make Yourself,” which spawned cuts still frequently spun on alternative radio: “Stellar,” “Drive” and “Pardon Me.” The crowd seemed to be split pretty evenly as far as who supported which act, though during each of the headliners’ hit-filled performances, even the band T-shirt-sporting-diehards didn’t act too cool and sang along with both sets. There was a strong buzz in the air as fans poured into the Forum in Inglewood on Friday night to see rock bands Incubus and the Deftones’ co-headlining tour.
